Many people find themselves emotionally invested in TV shows, and it’s not uncommon for these shows to stir up strong reactions. Some series are so compelling that they can even cause tension between roommates or friends. One person recently shared their experience of being upset with their roommate over a disagreement about the volume of a TV show they were watching.

A Roommate’s Complaint

The person in question is living with two roommates who don’t have jobs. They are covering the rent for all three people by working extra shifts. Today was their only day off until next Monday, and they decided to spend it watching Grey’s Anatomy for the first time. They watched three episodes, which amounted to roughly three hours of content. However, they were cut off during the third episode.

The episodes they were watching were particularly intense, featuring high-stakes moments where favorite characters might not survive. The person reacted as any fan would—screaming out loud and petting their dog. The most dramatic thing they said was something like, “NO, ANYONE BUT HER, PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T,” among other exclamations.

The roommate, however, was clearly bothered. At around 7 p.m., they started complaining about the noise from upstairs, using passive-aggressive language. The person asked the roommate directly if they had something to say, mentioning that they are on the spectrum and prefer direct communication. The roommate didn’t respond, but the person could hear sighs and grunts. They repeated the question, still receiving no answer.

Eventually, the person went upstairs and asked if everything was okay. They may have come across as confused, saying, “I thought I heard you say something.” This caused the roommate to explode, claiming that the person had kept them awake for 30 hours. However, the person pointed out that they had been at work 30 hours ago, and the roommate doesn’t work.

Reddit Users Weigh In

The situation sparked a lot of discussion on Reddit. Many users weighed in with their opinions. Some supported the person, arguing that it’s unreasonable to expect someone to be quiet at 7 p.m. Others suggested that the roommate had valid concerns about noise levels.

Can People Enjoy TV Shows?

The person expressed frustration because they had to turn off the show after being told to do so. They felt upset because they wanted to see the storyline through. With limited financial resources, this was their way of spending a day off. They questioned whether it’s fair to be reprimanded at 7 p.m. when the noise wasn’t excessive.

Some people believe that everyone should be able to enjoy their hobbies without interference, while others argue that living with others requires compromise. The situation highlights the challenges of cohabitation and the need for clear communication.
